aquagembaby | i know one is swords and the other is cups, but they both seem to depict a need to painfully walk away from something. I can't really see a big difference in the two. can anybody shed some light? |
outofideas | Great question. The 8 of Cups can show a person who has realised they have over-extended their emotions. They have emotionally invested into the situation(ship) a bit too much and they want to pull back on doing that for the time being. This is because they are not receiving what they were expecting. This most often is a temporary feeling and the emotions do come back but not as intensely. The 6 of Swords can show a person trying to get a mental break from a dramatic situation. Trying to calm down their thoughts and mind. Steer them in a different direction. Wanting to stop thinking about a specific situation or a person. The common thing between the two cards is "trying to move on". In the 8 of Cups a person is trying to distance themselves from a situation(ship) emotionally and in the 6 of Swords the person is trying to calm their thoughts, they are trying to mentally move away from whatever has been bothering them, or has had them overthinking. In the reversed position these cards would also have a similar meaning. Someone unable to move on emotionally, and someone unable to move on mentally, unable to stop thinking about a situation or a person. Constantly coming back to it as much as they are trying to move on from the feelings/thoughts. Still investing emotional and mental energy into a situation.

aquagembaby | awesome thank you but why is the 8 of cups more temporary? |
Jessica2407 | ^ because the 6os is more mental, it works slowly with the person. 6os can have different meanings with questions regarding feelings. Depends on what question you asked. |
outofideas | Both can be temporary and show a phase in one's life, it usually takes a while to move on, depending on the situation. So they may show up in readings for a while until the energy clears up. If it's an ongoing relationship where things are being worked out the energy is cleared up quickly. If someone is going through a separation or a loss the energy may be present for many months. It seems that in many cases the emotions and the feeling of over-extending them can fade out a bit quicker, but things may take more time to be processed on a mental level. 6 of Swords can follow after a big argument or drama, where as 8 of Cups can be the result of simply not receiving the desired attention. I hope that brings a little more clarity. |

Emsie | For me the 6 of Swords is a slower and calmer energy, a healing process, gradual calming of the mind, while the 8 of Cups is the "eff this and that, I'm leaving, bye" It reached a certain peak, and has a bit more emotion attached to it. |

8 Cups has to do with pulling away from emotions and 6 Swords means drifting away when it comes to communication and mental ability ------------------ ReadingsbyAzul EmpressMendez Bluetiful on Fiverr My Blog My Holy Hand: Scriptures _______________
